Caring for your fabric

Fabric is precious. We've put together a few guidelines to help you care for your new purchase. It's a good idea to pre-wash any washable natural fibres that you will be washing in the future, as some shrinkage may occur. We recommend pre-washing in the same way you intend to wash your future fabric creation including drying. Wash light and bright colours separately, as some colours may run in their first few washes.

Please note, these care tips are guidelines only and variations will apply to some fabrics. Special washing instructions will apply to some fabrics such as sequined, beaded, coated or foiled fabrics as well as specialty weights/styles and delicate items. Please follow the care & prewash guidelines as outlined below as we are unable to accept claims on fabrics which have been laundered incorrectly.

Acrylic Machine wash in cold water with a gentle detergent. Tumble dry on low heat or lay flat to air dry. Use a low heat setting to iron if necessary.
Cashmere Hand wash in cold water with a mild detergent. Lay flat on a towel to air dry. Avoid ironing; reshape while damp if needed.
Cotton Machine wash in cold or warm water with mild detergent. Tumble dry on low or hang to air dry. Iron at medium temperature if needed.
Leather and Suede Usually not washable; wipe clean with a damp cloth for surface dirt. Air dry away from direct sunlight. Do not iron; reshape while damp if necessary.
Linen Machine wash in cold to warm water with mild detergent. Tumble dry on low or hang to air dry. Iron while slightly damp for a crisp finish.
Nylon Machine wash in cold water with mild detergent. Tumble dry on low heat or hang to air dry. Use low heat for ironing if needed.
Polyester Machine wash in cold or warm water with mild detergent. Tumble dry on low heat or hang to air dry. Use low heat for ironing if necessary.
Rayon/Viscose Hand wash in cold water with gentle detergent. Lay flat to air dry or hang on a padded hanger. Use low to medium heat for ironing.
Silk Dry clean for delicate silks; hand wash cold for more robust silks. Lay flat on a towel to air dry. Use low heat and a pressing cloth for ironing.
Spandex Machine wash in cold water with mild detergent. Tumble dry on low heat or hang to air dry. Avoid ironing; stretch and reshape if necessary.
Wool Hand wash in cold water with gentle detergent for most woolens. Lay flat on a towel to air dry. Avoid ironing; reshape while damp if needed.
